In addition to being a critically-acclaimed writer of novels, short stories and memoir, Charlie teaches Creative Writing. He is particularly interested in the development of your voice, the structure of your work, and the effectiveness and poetry of your sentences. He will also happily edit your short story, novel or memoir.

Charlie has a wide variety of teaching experience. In 2022 he delivered a Masterclass in Experimental Writing for Arvon.  He has hosted workshops on Putting Poetry into your Prose, Memoir Writing, and Writing Satire for The Birmingham Literature Festival, Writing West Midlands and Milton Keynes LitFest. He has taught with Ruby Cowling on the short story at the Saboteur Awards and as a Visiting Lecturer at universities including Birmingham and Nottingham. He has also been a regular reader for The Literary Consultancy.

Charlie is always looking for new approaches to teaching. Since 2022 he has taught academic writing as a Fellow of the Royal Literary Fund, and while there are few obvious parallels between academic and creative writing, he has been excited to discover that strategies related to the structure and focus of the former can be successfully applied to your creative practice.
